This book is chock full of good stuff. Given its massive thickness, it ought to! Its aimed at cabling techs, but the first few chapters are very useful to network admins.Likes;- lots of content- good writing style- contains both theoretical and practical infoDislikes;- not available as a PDF eBook, AFAIK- not available in hardback either, I dislike paperbacksThe lack of an eBook format cost the 5th star in my review. While some of the book is best read on some rainy afternoon, it could also serve as a reference on-the-go using a laptop or tablet. Especially if the reader had the ability to search the text for keywords. I hope the author and/or publisher considers an Adobe Digital Editions or watermarked PDF version.
I use this book for taking college classes for a certificate program while also being able to take certification tests through ETA-I. Its long read but paired with applicable excercises, its great for continuing education in the technical field networking and cabling practices. The book itself can help with copper and fiber circuits in the technician field of today and really does a great job for prepping for the ETA-I certification tests.
Excellent book with images to go along with industry terminology that really helps out when you venture out to a job site. I bought it to get a refresher on fiber terminology and processes to make meetings more productive with a cabling contractor.
I am an RCDD and have been actively designing cabling systems for five years. Since I migrated to telecom from electrical engineering, my field telecom experience is light. I'm fine with the theory, but I'm not an installer. This book fills in the holes for me. The Clear descriptions of test equipment, good photos of fan out kits and other elements relating to field equipment have helped me to design better and more accurate rack layouts and telecom room layouts.I would agree that it's a beginner's book if you have a lot of field experience, but it is a valuable design tool if you don't.
Excellent
Gigantic book that actually covers two courses at my community college; copper cabling and fiber cabling. It covers every topic under the sun and the teacher said he will use every chapter except three; Networking, Customer Service and one other I don't recall. Funny thing is all examples are provided by one cable manufacturer and it's not Panduit. In school we went through all that was copper wiring and it is well covered, the fiber theory and standards also. You will need to practice but with the book's help this might be great start to a new profesion. Look in Amazon for the book I found it for half of the list price.
Big book! Pretty indepth!
