I LOVE this book and remember it well from my own childhood ( still have my original copy )...but I wish it had been published in it's original format...which was quite a bit larger and with a finer paper stock.It is a reall classic with a wonderful story and delightful illustrations. Making it smaller lessens it's impact.I do realize that the book is now available in two sizes and this is the larger of the two...but I hope when I buy more copies of it next year for little friends during the Easter season...that I will be able to purchase it in its original size.Cheryl Webb Scott

I bought this board book for my 1 year old as an Easter book and she likes looking at the bunny and duck in the story. To my surprise, my 1st grader really took to the book because it has lots of sight words in it that she can read. She read it aloud independently with very little help, so it's a good book for beginning readers.The story is cute about a bunny who finds an egg and tries everything he can think of to find out what's in the egg. He falls asleep and while he's sleeping, the duckling came out and tries to wake up the bunny in the same ways the bunny tried to open the egg. In the end, they both became friends and were never alone again. Cute message and beautiful drawings. I love how colorful the pictures are and in the center of each page is an egg shape with the words and illustrations in them, bordered by beautiful flowers on each page. Certainly a great Easter book or a book for all through the year.

All the morons on here complaining that this book insights violence..... 🙄🙄GROW UP!!!!We all grew up with book and never once, thought twice about it. Stop raising your kids like a bunch of crybabies and lying to them! Life is NOT perfect and sometimes people ARE bad! Toughen up!

This was one of my favorite books as a child, and when I was looking for things to put in my son's Easter basket this year, this brought back so many memories!It's a large hardcover book, and the pages aren't too thin. The colors are brilliant and the drawings and story are just as charming as I remember them being. It's become one of my son's favorite books!

I remember this book from my childhood. It was one of my favorite books. I still have the original book I had (which was bigger), but it's in tatters.--obviously much loved I didn't realize back then that the author and illustrator both are award-winners, which, as a retired children's librarian I found to be a revelation at the time I discovered it. (Not all Golden Books have such credentials.) The story is charming and the illustrations are wonderful--hours can be spent with this book finding new things in the pictures. The new smaller format is probably more child friendly, especially for small children. I'm buying it as a gift now, so happy to have found it again.

Precious book. It was one of my kids’ favorites. I pulled it out of the box of books I saved from way back when, and my 2 1/2 year old grandson love, love, loves it! He asks for the Eggggg Boooook after they get off the plane and walk in the door. So sweet. He also really loves the Little Golden Book about Timmy (“I can do it by myself”), The Cat’s Pajamas and Caps For Sale. All four are great books that little ones love. Glad I kept them! The Timmy book is cheaper through eBay. Sorry Amazon, but shouldn’t have to pay a fortune ($29 plus dollars) for a copy of a small book (originally cost me .69 cents). My grandson cried when he went home and asked for the Timmy book, and they didn’t have one. So, I got a cooy of all 4 of these favorite books for him, since he loves them all. The Egg Book has really cute pictures and is about a bunny who finds an egg and wonders what is inside (a boy?), falls asleep, it hatches, and then nudges him to wake up, etc. It captures their interest.

The text was the same as the book that my children had, but the illustrator was different. This book didn't have all those adorable illustrations that the original book had, especially the final picture of the bunny and the duck hugging each other. I was disappointed.

This book is smaller than the one I had as a child, but it has the advantage of fitting on a shelf more easily. The illustrations are wonderful and make it a memorable book. I have loved this since childhood and I'm a grandmother now and give copies of this to my grands, nieces, and nephew, but I'll never give up my copy!

A Pup Called Trouble (Kathy Tegan Books, 2018) by Bobbie Pyron is an engaging story that 3-5th grade students or older reluctant readers will enjoy. Based on true stories of coyotes who live in New York's Central Park, the book is told mostly through the point of view of the aptly named coyote, Trouble. Pyron, who makes her home in the Utah mountains, spent four days roaming around Manhattan imaging how the city would smell, sound, and look to a lost coyote pup. Those four days became the backbone for this story.Although the child reader may not recognize herself in the story, Trouble’s desire to experience what his parents have forbidden is very child-like. Pyron sets up this identification at the beginning of the book when Trouble’s parents take him to see a tractor for the first time. Whereas his siblings fear the loud noise it makes, Trouble responds:“It sounds huge,” Trouble exclaimed. “It sounds exciting! Can we go see?” (p. 16)After he sees Makers (humans) for the first time, he bombards his mother,[Trouble] raced in circles of excitement. "Can we see more tomorrow?" (p. 21-22)"No, she snapped. "Nothing good comes from Makers."Swift shivered with fright. Pounced moved closer to his father, and Star trembled.Trouble's eyes glowed with dreamy curiosity. (p. 21-22)Inevitably, the pup’s curiosity gets him into trouble. The reader sees and feels what happens when Trouble hides inside a truck. "...a loud, low growl rumbled to life beneath Trouble's feet. It grew louder and louder, shaking the floor and the walls and the ceiling of the shelter. Then, to Trouble's horror, the Beast lurched to life."(p.30).He finds himself in a "stone forest [which] rose so high it cut the wide blue expanse to wedges and slivers of white (p. 33). His senses are accosted by strange scents, sounds, and sights--not the least of which is the Makers "looking intently at a small something [they] held in their hands." At one point he is surrounded by Makers of all sizes. "Trouble leaped to his feet, spun in circles looking for the cover of forest, trees, bushes, anything where he could hide. Nothing. Everything was hard. Solid. Unforgiving." (p. 33)Although Trouble admits that he's lost in this strange world, his curiosity drives him further and further from the truck that brought him to the city. When a crow named Mischief spies Trouble and takes an interest in him, there are great opportunities for fun and games as the two ride a subway, scare New Yorkers, and cause general mayhem.Mischief introduces him to other animals living in Central Park and Trouble falls in love with a poodle named Minette. As a result of these friendships, Trouble begins to lose his homesickness and begins to start liking his new life. His friends are alarmed and arrange for him to visit the "Place of the Once Wild." At the city zoo Trouble's eyes are opened to see what he risks losing.Ultimately, it is the fact that his friends band together to save him from the consequences of his poor decision that helps Trouble return home. The "good friends help friends stay out of trouble" moral-of-the-story is subtly and sweetly woven into a book that boys and girls will both enjoy.

Bobbie Pyron has a great gift - the ability to tell stories from an animal's point of view and make it completely believable. I loved the motley crew of characters in this one and was rooting for that pup the whole time. Young readers will be captivated from page one.

I've been excited about the release of this book since it was announced, but I never expected the book as a whole to be so well crafted.A couple of things to note:1. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy red hardback with gold lettering on the spine.2. The paper is thick with an eggshell glossy finish.3. All chapter intros are illustrated.4. Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.

I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But Kindle is just too convenient. *smile*

My husband tried to surprise me with this order, but we share the amazon account ;)I WAS surprised though, because I didn’t realize it would be textbook size with all these amazing scenes drawn out. They’re AH-MAY-ZING drawings!! If you love Harry Potter, you will love these books. For some reason, hubs couldn’t find the first and second of the series (I did ;p) so he bought the third first, but we know the stories by heart so it doesn’t matter to me. I hope they put out all of them! It almost feels like how I felt waiting for the actual series to come out.
