My students actually loved some of the recipes, works great with kids.

Very disappointed! I thought there would be some photos. Very, very, very few. I would not have made this purchase had I known!!

Great suggestions and recipes.

There are only about 2 salads that I would make

Very good book . Nice content.

This book is organized into a format that makes it very easy to prepare a very tasty and nutritious salad. It discusses the elements for a good salad - the components that go into creating the perfect salad. Each of those areas are divided up into specific details explaining about each of the elements and giving examples of what they provide and what they taste like as well as the value that they bring to a salad.Techniques are covered on how to prepare the foods in the salads. There is a chapter on the dressings which can definitely make or break a good salad. Once again, the dressing formula is broken down by ingredient and there are explanations on what each ingredient bring to the final dressing. There is a plethora of salad recipes! These are not just your everyday plain old salads, these are ranging from colorful and nutritious all the way up to flavorful and decadent with meats, and all sorts of added ingredients to be a whole meal in and of itself. Yes, the salad can be main course if you know how to do it up right, and Nicole Pavlovsky has shown how in this excellent book. While I am not one who like a great deal of ingredients in my salads, this book does provide an outlet for the more creative side to branch out and try new things. I don't personally like salmon and a great deal of meats. I also really hate arugula, and some of the other very nutritious greens and herbs like cilantro (it tastes like soap to me). But that is the beauty of making a salad. You can substitute or make it with what YOU want in it. The recipes are suggestions and you can customize it to fit your tastes.I recommend many of these salads, especially the strawberry fields chicken salad - I don't care for pecans, so I substituted caramelized cashews and also added some kale to this. Delicious! This is an excellent book that I would recommend highly to anyone desiring to put more salads into their diet.About the only drawback to this is there are not many pictures, but they are not really necessary.

Full disclosure. I am in New York and according to the calendar, spring arrived a month ago. Although apparently, no one informed the weather that it was supposed to stop snowing and get warmer outside. I saw this book at the beginning of the month when Mother Nature played an April Fool's Day joke and we had more snow. I was determined to stop thinking about the 110th day of January, so I decided I could try some of the recipes from The Dinner Salad Cookbook and at least eat like the weather was nice. The first part of the book focuses on what a dinner salad is and there are so many choices for ingredients. From numerous varieties of lettuce to grains, vegetables, fruit, proteins, and nuts, there are enough choices to make different salads for months. I have made the Barbecue Chicken Pizza Salad, the Black Bean and Corn Fritter Salad, the Caprese Pasta Salad and the Belgian Waffle Fruit Salad. All delicious. There is a chapter devoted to salad dressings and as I am that I don't buy bottled salad dressing type of person, this will be a go-to chapter for me. Nutritional information is provided for every recipe and I really appreciate that since I cook for someone on a low sodium diet. There aren't many pictures, which is usually a negative for me, however, since I have made tons of salads, it wasn't hard to visualize how to attractively plate these recipes.A good variety of many ingredient combinations I would not have thought to try. When I finally can plant and then harvest my vegetable garden, this book will have a prominent place in my kitchen. I would recommend this to anyone who loves salad and is looking for more ways to enjoy a great dinner salad.Thank you, Nicole Pavlovsky, Rockridge Press and Callisto Publisher's Club for the complimentary copy.

Nicole Pavlovsky writes this book for newcomers to the "salad for dinner" group. My cousin, Nancy, who is no great cook, looked it over and reports that she liked the definitions and explanations and that they are useful and clear. She is trying to expand and revise her family's diet in the direction of better and fresher food with less meat, and found most of the recipes and ideas fit quite nicely into her dinner plan, especially in the summer vegetable season.I am a very experienced cook and cookbook reviewer and I do not find new information here as much as I see an orderly presentation – Choose a base, then choose a protein, then choose an acid, and an oil, etc…. I wonder, though, how often someone will look at the lists and have an ahah moment of "oh I haven't used avocado oil recently, let's have that with our salad tonight". But, it's still nice that the lists are there. The recipes are well thought out, balanced, and the book is nicely arranged. The mix and match recipes help in planning vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.I received a review copy of "The Dinner Salad Cookbook: Easy & Satisfying Recipes That Make a Meal" by Nicole Pavlovsky directly from the publisher.
