I was looking for something more organized with a table of contents. Something with ideas I haven’t heard of. To me most of this people already know and if you were looking for a specific category you would never find it. You would have to read the whole book and try to remember when the need arises.
I can't believe this [garbage] has 4 stars overall. I purchased this bc of a Buzzfeed recommendation on one of their posts in FB and will never trust them again. As an example, one of the hacks says if you are ever attacked by a swarm of bees you can disable them with hairspray. Really?In summary, very few useful tips, many that I have tried in the past and don't work, and many more ridiculous ones that will never apply to most people (e.g. don't make eye contact with wolves). This isn't even effective as a joke book.
After I read this, I was amazed how often I would come across a problem that had been addressed in the book. For example: I have a friend who was fighting a nagging cough, remnants of a bad cold, I recalled the Vapor-Rub on the feet, put on socks, cough ends in a few minutes. It worked. I have doled that out several times (4 or 5) and it has worked every time. That is one example, so many more.This book has become a reference book for me, and while most live in the Google world, I have a book that I can refer to for 100's of ideas.
The book is the perfect read for people with short attention spans who love to share random life hacks with others. The book has some pretty useful information, although quite a few of the hacks are repeats from the Internet. One additional note- do some additional research before trying out some of the hacks....like using apple cider vinegar on a mole? Probably not the smartest thing to do...
When this book came to my house, I thought, ‘Why on earth did I buy this book? I probably know all of the useful info anyway.’ (I buy a lot from Amazon because I live in a rural area and the convenience of using Amazon is a life saver, especially for bulky items such as 12-16 rolls of paper towels. So I don’t always remember all of my purchases.). Then I reasoned, ‘It must have gotten a lot of good reviews.’I put the book in my reading room (otherwise known as the bathroom). The first time I opened it I was in there for about an hour! 😮I think I might try to memorize it. It’s that useful. I also know what I’m hinging my children for Chanukah. I’ve already used the advice in it a few times, and I certainly haven’t tried to memorize it yet.There are a couple hacks in the book which, IMO, are ethically questionable. But for the most part, they’re simple ways to make your life easier.Some of them will leave you wondering why you hadn’t thought of them yourselves, some are handy ideas my dad would have passed on to me if he hadn’t been born in 1923, and then there are some which contain knowledge which must have been gleaned from experts.I most definitely recommend this book.
It is fun to read. I bought it for the Kindle so I didn't realize how short of a book it was. Also, it would be more usable if there was an index in the back so I could actually look something specific up. As it is right now, it is more entertaining than useful.
I honestly really like this book. It gives 3 hacks per page; the text is very clear and these methods work awesomely. The book is also a normal size; at first I was hesitant to buy it, thinking it would be big, but it was actually a normal size and is pretty thick. Love it! Definitely would buy it again c:
This book has elicited more conversations in our home and with friends in years! There are gems galore in this collection and never tire of opening a random page to find new discoveries. We enjoy this so much we put a copy in our guest bathroom and friends, family and guests always have a comment when they pick it up. Kudos to the author for the collection!
