Very clear. That is the most important thing. You cannot read and not understand, you WILL understand! It is a very nice book. My only concern is that it is too short and sometimes the treatment is too superficial (e.g. magnetic interactions).
Nice overview.
Good text for beginner's. I believe you need to read a text by JMD Coey and B D Nullity to complement with it. Start with this text and follow up with the other two. I believe first is designed for science majors and second for engineers.
This is a very nice book for someone new to the field, or for someone who wants to get a broad overview of some of the newer topics in magnetism. I do wish it had more of an emphasis on statistical mechanics though, since that's absolutely critical for really understanding magnetic behavior.

In physics, one of the things that bugs me for a long time is magnetism. Playing with magnets is very often used to introduce science. It is sad that typical physics undergraduate curriculum does not provide a deeper understanding of magnetism. In high school physics, magnets are usually treated as a black box that provides a magnetic field. There are more exposures on magnetism in the first couple years at the undergraduate level, for example in electromagnetism, but the main goal is merely to calculate the magnetic field rather than understanding magnetism itself. There are some bits and pieces regarding magnetism in modern physics and quantum mechanics, in particular about atoms. Instructors may use magnetism as a case study in statistical mechanics, but it really depends on the instructor and the textbook adopted. The one course that is most likely to talk about magnetism in some depth is solid state physics. But from my experience, one semester of solid state physics typically does not cover magnetism. As such, I think a text specialized in magnetism is really a great choice for an advanced undergraduate. Magnet is such a ubiquitous material that physics undergraduates should have some knowledge about it.Having that said, I understand that magnetism is intrinsically a quantum phenomenon. Therefore, it is tough to present the subject at a level appropriate for an undergraduate. This book does a pretty good job explaining the physics without presenting the heavy mathematics. I agree with the other reviewers that the book is a little brief. At the undergraduate level, the discussion should be more detailed, and the derivations can provide sufficient steps for the students to follow. Overall, the book feels more like an overview on magnetism for the readers to refresh their memories.
This book is an easy to read overview of the subject. It's a good book to review the fundamentals (para/dia/ferro/anti magnetism,exchange interaction, etc.). I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the price is a bit high, and sometimes the treatments lacks depth.
