This book has some serious shortcomings. It lists the tarantulas by their common, rather than scientific, names, which makes looking up specific species difficult, as many have multiple common names. The articles have interesting trivia about the tarantulas, but finding specific care information for them is difficult. The index is fairly useless; for example, neither "arboreal" nor "terrestrial" (nor their layman's alternatives) are listed, and there is no glossary of terms. It's easier to find the section you want using the table of contents. I would recommend this book as an add-on, rather than a primary resource, for anyone who might be even slightly serious about keeping tarantulas. Buy "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide" instead, or at least first.
I choice this item because my little son ( 5 yrs old) was attracted by arachnids in general and specifically by tarantulas. I do think that the writer is an expert in tarantulas breeding, storage and management. Reading this book I realized that buying and growing a tarantula is much less easy than expected. Therefore, I don't think I will buy one. Anyway, the review is complete and well explained in every issue treated by the author, expecially how to choose the most safe one . I recommend this book to all those beginners who want to share a part of their life with these particular animals!
