The first third of the book is ad space every other page. It's like I'm reading a buzzfeed article with adblock turned off. If you guys want to saturate your almanac with advertisements at least make it so they are at least removable. That being said, the information presented is nice, clear, and simple. There's a lot of good information towards the end I would five star this if I didn't have to wade trough so many ads.
This year, instead of getting an eBook on Kindle, I got the hardback like I used to a few years ago. Much, much better. The charts are readable and they are all over the place. Chunk full of useful information and folklore along with the sciences and fun filled trivia facts. There are a lot of advertising on these pages, but that doesn't bother me much. Only thing is the book has a little over 300 pages, so if one does not like the adverts, there is only 150-200 useful pages in here, all in a hardback for less than $15.00! It is a bargain, no matter how one slices and dices it. Numerous recipes, odd facts about the history of horse breeding, how tides impact fishing, how El Nino impacts the winter and starting on page 230, there is a story about "Typhoid Mary," the "Most Dangerous Woman in America."I have mentioned the charts and how they are everywhere in this almanac. Starting on page 118 and going through to page 152, there is the monthly calendars with all the astronomical insights and astrological tidbits, weather folklore and things to look out for. The calendars start with November 2015 and go to December 2016. Starting on page 273 and going on to the end of the almanac are numerous reference charts and tables. Easy to use and understand. The Weather pages start at page 189 and goes for about 20 onward. All these are easy to find because the Almanac has black tabs on the edges of those pages, so just look to the pages and you will quickly find them.I am so glad I got this in the hardback. For just a few dollars more, but this edition will last for a long, long time. I can lay the almanac down flat and the pages will stay flat -- they won't fall back on each other. The pages are also sewed and glued together, so this publication will be standing long after it's time is up. There is nothing that beats an almanac and the "Old Farmer's" is the cream of the crop!It is nice to be part of an old Tradition here in North America. This one lasted for centuries and still continues to the unforeseeable future!

The is just a great little book/magazine period. The articles are very interesting, & the weather predictions are fairly right on. I get this every year for my sister's Christmas stocking. I know this sounds insane but she used it every year to plan her budgets for large properties she managed all over the US, and she always met her budget. When her superiors asked her how she did it she came up with a sensible answer, but said there was no way she could tell them she used an Almanac or they would think she was crazy.
This is the worse almanac I have ever boughten. I was so disappointed. I bought one for 2017? too. Both are horrible. I usually go by reviews when purchasing products especially on Amazon but this time I ignored the negative reviews but I wish I hadn't. It's full of stupid advertisements! There are more advertisements then actual facts.Because their books, idk if I can return them. Plus I've had them for a few months already and I didn't have a chance to read them until a few weeks ago. I can't reccomend anyone to buy them. Your better off going online to get info from there because it's free and you'll get less advertisements. The quality of the cover is nice and sturdy but that's the only positive thing I can say about these. I wanted to like them.
It's like a waste of time and paper.You need a computer to divine what to do anywhere outside of Boston. The watering recommendations, for example, can be 0 inches. But then you realize you live in California. And that you need to shift back to a table in another section which shows that you need a +5 inches over boston. Then you need to switch back to the forecast section and look at the deviation from the standard fall which is +/-2 inches, with last years prediction was +1 from average, but was really -3. So then you know you might need 5 inches +/-2 +1/-3 or 5 +3/-5, so somewhere between 0 and 8 inches per season, and you realize you wasted 7 bucks.Go talk to a local farmer at the farmers market.
I had seen these things around as a child, and as I love to read, I picked it up and thumbed through. II thought it was dumb. For some reason until I was 28 I kept this opinion. But at 28 my gardening and fishing friend kept referencing this book. Two years later I bought one to see what the fuss was about.I am won over. I can't begin to say how helpful this book is for the starting gardener and more. I set my planting calendar, my fishing calendar, and even my star-gazing and religious calendar based on the information in this book. Whats more, the articles within are well written and interesting. I don't put much stock in the weather section, but it's amusing to read, none-the-less.
I've been buying The Old Farmer's Almanac for years, usually in our local grocery store. Several years ago it became harder to find locally and I wasted time and gas looking for it. Finding it on Amazon was wonderful. With my Prime membership, I got it in two days without wasting any time looking for it in a local store. The Old Farmer's Almanac has the same design and format as always. I appreciate that they haven't decided they need to change and "improve" what they have always done well. The 2016 version includes the usual information I look for on astronomy, the calendar, gardening, and weather, as well as other helpful information.
